What we do and why

Damper

What a proper HVAC system achieves

A HVAC system is installed not to extinguish a fire but to control the smoke generated from fire and slow the spread of fire. A correctly working HVAC system does this by utilising some or all of the below methods

  • Opposed Airflow
  • Pressure differential
  • Physical Barriers
  • Passive Collection
  • Buoyancy
  • Physical Removal

Why a working and maintained HVAC system is important

A correctly engineered, installed, commissioned and maintained HVAC system can save lives by preventing smoke from reaching other compartments of the building, giving personnel time to escape and allowing smoke free exits.

There are many tragic examples of when compliance has not been met, and this has resulted in loss of life, often occurring on floors well above where fire was evidenced.

Why it is important to maintain/comply with standards

Not only will a compliant HVAC system saves lives but it is a legal requirement by the BCA to have regular maintenance.

Don’t be caught unprepared. A damper failure can lead to substantial loss of lives and property.

Control Smoke. Save Lives.
